Case-Study III: «Draw me close»
Jordan Tannahill will talk about the making of his acclaimed virtual reality performance «Draw Me Close», which was recently presented at the Venice Biennale. The piece, a co-production between the National Film Board of Canada and the National Theatre (UK), merges the worlds of live performance and animation to create an unforgettable encounter between a mother and her son. It is experienced using a unique motion capture system, Orion, that uses HTC Vive and is currently being developed by Ikinema. Drawing on his background in theatre, Tannahill will discuss the complexities and potentialities of working with live performers in virtual space.
Jordan Tannahill is a Canadian playwright, author, and director based in London. His play Late Company is currently running on London's West End. Tannahill is one of Canada's premiere playwrights and has received numerous honors including the Governor Generals Award for his book Age Of Minority: Three Solo Plays. His first novel, Liminal, is forthcoming from House of Anansi Press in January 2018.
